IS IT TIME TO REPLACE YOUR AC?

In Colorado Springs, your air conditioning system works hard through hot, dry summers and changing temperatures. Over time, that wear can lead to decreased performance, higher costs, and inconsistent comfort.

So how do you know when it’s time to replace instead of repair?

We’ll help you figure that out.

Signs It’s Time for a New AC

There are several common indicators that your AC system may be nearing the end of its lifespan or no longer operating efficiently.

Inconsistent Cooling

Some rooms are too warm, while others are freezing.

Frequent Repairs

A replacement could save you money if you’re calling for repairs every summer.

High Energy Bills

Older units work harder and cost more to run.

Strange Noises

Grinding, rattling, or squealing sounds mean trouble.

Poor Airflow

Weak or warm air coming from your vents.

Old age

10 - 15+ years old

If you’re noticing these, replacement may be the smarter long-term choice.

Repair vs. Replace

Many homeowners aren’t sure whether to continue repairing their system or invest in a replacement. The right decision depends on your system’s age, condition, and long-term costs.

Repair Might Make Sense

  • Newer System
  • Minor Issue
  • Low Cost Fix

Replacement Might Be Better

  • Older System
  • Repairs Adding Up
  • Decreasing Efficiency
  • Comfort Issues

We recently issues with humidity control after our 6-year-old AC ran all day (installed by another company). We had to bring our basement dehumidifier upstairs and it was constantly running/filling up. Meyers found a couple of different issues and was able to quickly resolve the dehumidification issues. The house now feels much more comfortable and the dehumidifiers do not run all day. The kindest/most personable part though - when I first called, I told them I was worried about the dehumidifiers running/ filling up when we were on vacation. They let us borrow their whole house dehumidifier, which automatically drains in our basement drain, for over 3 weeks and are letting us return it when we get back from vacation - no extra charge. We didn't even ask - the owner just came by and dropped it off. Really appreciate it - one less thing to worry about when we are out of town. Thank you!

I had Meyers put in central air and it made a life changing improvement. Barely notice they were here and then came to me and we are finished. Quickly. Then my 2003 furnace failed in a heat wave. Meyer's was very busy doing what they do but when I called to ask for a proposal for new furnace and installation on a Friday Dan called at the end of his Friday shift. With only 10 minutes before a weekend off. Dan emailed me a proposal to sign over weekend and Monday morning the office called and scheduled the install for Tuesday. With 100+ Temps I appreciate getting that going quickly. Good People at Meyer's Heating and Air. Profesional

Update one year later, August 3, 2026: The technician who came out to do the warranty repair on our compressor motor was excellent. He arrived promptly, did a great job, and left the area spotless. So I am updating my previous review, after a bad experience on the install. Thank you for honoring the warranty! Meyers seems as if they want to please, but they have not failed to disappoint us over the course of 10 months. After buying a home with an 13 year-old HVAC system that was working well, we bought a service contract with Meyers, and asked them to evaluate the unit. January 2025: The first service tech had only recently started working for them, and seemed challenged to understand how to open the unit. He assured us that the heater was in good shape, but then we had to help him figure out how to put the cover back on, after he first put it on incorrectly. June 2025: The tech came to do our routine summer check of the AC (which had been working just fine to that point), and told us he was having problems with the "fast start" on the compressor. He told us that the unit was on its last legs, and needed to be replaced. We agreed to have them replace the AC only, because the tech said that the heater was just fine. (We were foolish not to get a second opinion). I don't think that either Meyers tech ever opened the heat exchanger to see that there was rust inside (Something that we would find out after they replaced the AC) July 2025: After failing to show up on the appointed day, Meyers rescheduled our AC replacement for another day, without consulting us. Meyers sent a tech to replace the AC accompanied by the 17 year-old son of the manager as his assistant. The teenager had a bad attitude about doing the work, and spilled oil all over our pavers and landscaping rocks and driveway. He tracked mud into our house. Meyers' manager sent someone to try to clean up the mess, and even tried himself, but some of the oil stains remain. When the job was complete, the tech left a hose unhooked on the interior unit, which drained water onto our floor for months before we noticed it. October 2025: A chatty tech came to look at the water draining from the bottom of our interior AC unit onto the floor, and admitted that it was their fault for not hooking it up properly. He also performed our winter heater inspection. He told us that there was rust in the heat exchanger and strongly recommended that we replace the heater as soon as possible. If this was the case, why didn't the tech tell us in July when we inquired about the heater before changing the AC?? We could have saved a lot of money by replacing the entire HVAC at one time, instead of replacing two different units inside of 4 months! We initially hired Meyers because they seemed to have excellent reviews. However, we understand that the previously respected business has changed hands in recent years, causing some changes. I should have trusted my gut when the first tech who came out in January could not easily reassemble the unit. Our overall impression is that Meyers is unorganized and sloppy - evidenced by their poor workmanship, their chaotic office, and messy trucks, and lack of professionalism. We feel that we made a mistake hiring them, and it has cost us dearly. I do not recommend them.
